Gemas was born from a shared vision of community, trust, and authenticity, championed by its co-founders Jorge and Andrea, a couple who have been together for 18 years. Their belief that one can truly and sincerely find their significant other by being authentic laid the foundation for this innovative dating app.
While pursuing their PhDs, Andrea met Irma, and they instantly became close friends. Both Andrea and Irma shared a passion for building communities and empowering women, believing deeply in the power of women's trust and support. Irma's frustrating experiences with popular dating apps sparked a discussion about how people could meet their significant others through communal connections.
Reflecting on their own relationship, Andrea and Jorge realized that just as they had met through mutual friends, others could also find meaningful connections this way. However, for someone like Irma, who was new to Philadelphia, the pool of friends able to recommend potential partners was small. This led to the idea of creating a dating app where women and LGBTQ+ individuals would recommend their ready-to-date male friends to users like Irma.
Combining Andrea's passion for design and entrepreneurship with Jorge's technical skills, and guided by Irma's insights as a super user and advisor on what single women want, Gemas came to life. Gemas is not just an app but a community-driven platform where authenticity and sincere recommendations help users find great matches, endorsed by those they trust.
